One of Avalon's core values is Family and Community. Through our Avalon Compassion Team, better known as A.C.T., we aim to serve the community with compassion and "act'' on behalf of others to make a difference. This holiday season, Avalon has donated to Wreaths Across America on behalf of our clients.
Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization whose mission is to remember the fallen U.S. Veterans, honor those that serve our country and teach the next generation the value of freedom. The organization works year-round to fulfill its mission. In December, they aim to place a wreath on every hero’s grave to show Veterans and their families that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
In 2022, 571 truckloads of wreaths were delivered nationwide. Hundreds of professional truck drivers representing 390 carriers volunteered their time, equipment, and fuel to transport 2.7 million wreaths to over 3,700 participating locations.
This year, National Wreaths Across America Day is December 16, 2023. Wreaths Across America will coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and almost 4,000 other locations nationwide, including Puerto Rico. The week-long event kicks off on December 9th with the “Escort to Arlington,” which is known as the country’s longest veterans’ parade. “The Escort to Arlington,” consisting of 13 tractor-trailers representing various trucking companies, will travel down the East Coast and end at Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday, December 16th. You can check here for the route itinerary.
According to the Wreaths Across America website, “Transportation partners are the backbone of the Wreaths Across America effort.” Each year, volunteer trucking and logistics companies assist in delivering the wreaths not only to Arlington but also to the 4,000 other participating cemeteries. Countless volunteers will then gather throughout the country on December 16th to help place these wreaths on the markers of our fallen heroes.
Avalon is proud to have employees nationwide attending their local ceremonies. If you would like to attend or volunteer at a wreath-laying ceremony near you, visit our Corporate Sponsor page.
