Avalon Risk Management is proud to announce that President/CEO, Lisa Gelsomino, has been selected as a member of the Commercial Operations to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (COAC). Ms. Gelsomino joins 19 other members and four alternate members to make up the 15th term of the COAC.
The COAC advises the secretaries of the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on the commercial operations of CBP and related DHS and Treasury functions. The COAC will hold its quarterly meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Washington D.C. This meeting will be open to the public. Additional information can be found in the September 10th Federal Register.
This selection marks Lisa’s second term as Committee Member - COAC Trade Co-Chair. During the 14th Term of COAC, Lisa served as the Trade Co-Chair for the Trade Enforcement & Revenue Collection (TERC) subcommittee and continues to be the trade lead for the AD/CVD, Bond, Forced Labor, Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), and Pipeline Working Groups. She also serves on the COAC 1USG, Global Supply Chain, and Trade Modernization subcommittees, which provide guidance to CBP on ACE, eCommerce, CTPAT, CBP Centers, in-bond regulations, international engagement, and other important trade matters as they arise.
“We are proud of the great work Lisa continues to do as the sole surety representative appointed to COAC.” said James Zuhlke, Avalon’s Executive Chairman. “Her extensive involvement in the committee work makes sure that operational aspects which impact importers, brokers and sureties are fully considered. Lisa’s extensive experience and technical knowledge are an asset to Avalon and the industry.”
With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Lisa held numerous positions on both the agency and insurance company side. As President/CEO and founding partner of Avalon Risk Management, Lisa is an active member of several government and trade associations and subcommittees. She is on the Board of the International Trade Surety Association and works with CBP through the Customs Surety Executive Committee (CSEC). Lisa has conducted extensive outreach to help the trade better understand CBP’s trade and enforcement initiatives.
